Today’s featured park is Debdale Park situated in Gorton, to the east Manchester, on the A57.
It’s quite a large park (130 acres) and its unique in that its northern edge faces onto water – Gorton Lower Reservoir. It is laid out on undulating ground, and there are pleasant waterside walks at the far end of the park. There’s a well-maintained play area, tennis courts, a skateboard area and flower beds with beautiful roses. Debdale Park won a Green Flag award in 2003.
Another wonderful but sadly under-used park. It dates from the beginning of the 20th century when the former marshland and open pasture was transformed into a municipal park. The line of Nico Ditch runs north east along the eastern boundary of Debdale Park, which might explain why the park is aligned at an angle to the A57.
Conveniently situated near the entrance to the park are a McDonalds restaurant and a Holiday Inn hotel.
Location: 3.5 miles (5.5km) east of Manchester. Local authority: City of Manchester. County: Lancashire. Postcode M18 7LJ

I use the park very day, exercising my dog on the lead I might add,and if it were not for dog owners who use the park 365 days a year the park would be unused.whilst every dogowner is challenged if off the lead, there seems to be no effort to curb the amount of private cars in and out of the park and speed of these cars
The only sign on the gates is not visible when gates are open which is when the sign is needed!!and there is no speed limit signs at all,I’m sure it used to be on display at 5 mph but there is nothing now!!
The park workers trucks are very good, its the private cars to the childens centre (who should know better)and the people who use the Parks, gardening and diy centres that seem to be the culprits
Hope you find this letter helpful as I’ve just had a private car pass me in the park doing about 25mph
Dog people are the parks life all year round AND are not going to kill anyone speeding round
