Out and about in Manchester & Salford with Sony A350 digital SLR

I’ve been out and about today in Manchester and Salford with my just-purchased Sony Alpha A350 digital SLR camera. It’s a while since I’ve been out exploring the city with a camera, due to dull, rainy weather, and other reasons.

Similar to a compact digital camera – e.g. my old Nikon Coolpix 990 – it has an external LCD which can be flipped up and down. This is an essential feature for several reasons: you can flip the LCD down, hold the camera above your head and get a better vantage point; it’s much easier to achieve perfect horizontal/vertical alignment; it’s easier to photograph unobtrusively by shooting from waist level with the LCD flipped up; you don’t have to squint uncomfortably with one eye.

I’ve heard some photographers say they can’t take a photo without looking through viewfinder, but I frame photos using my eyes and my mind.

I can’t believe that the Sony Alpha A350 is the only digital SLR camera with the ‘live view’ LCD. So far, I’m very pleased with it indeed.
