Conservatives meet in a Conservative-free city but is it?

The Conservatives are holding their Spring Forum at Manchester Conference Centre today Friday and tomorrow Saturday 8 April.

It’s widely reported that Manchester doesn’t have a single Conservative councillor in Manchester, making it appear as if the they have virtually no support in the Manchester area. But the reason why there are no Conservatives on Manchester City Council is because the council area covers mainly the inner parts of the conurbation, where Labour or the LibDems are strongest, and excludes the outer areas, where there is significent Conservative support.

EOM has no party affiliation, but thinks it is wrong for a major political party to be excluded completely from Manchester Town Hall simply because of how the boundaries are drawn. The issue of local government boundaries in Manchester is one of Eye On Manchester’s Key Messages.
