Manchester Picture of the Day: Oxford Rd at dusk

Manchester Oxford St Whitworth St junction at dusk

See all Oxford Road photos in the aidan.co.uk photo portfolio.

Oxford Street becomes Oxford Rd at the junction of Whitworth Street and Whitworth Street West.

It’s one of the busiest intersections in Manchester, and is overlooked by the Cornerhouse arts centre, split between the main building, left and Cinema One, right.

Between them is the road providing access to Oxford Rd station, and a security camera on top of a tall pole. It’s shortly before dusk on Tuesday 7 October 2006, around 6pm, and the rain is starting to fall.

The orange street lamp and Cornerhouse neon are reflected in the wet surface of Oxford St.

The Cornerhouse website can be found at www.cornerhouse.org.uk.

  1. Hi Aidan,

Hello from Dorset again. I’ve admired your work for many a year now and was happy to be informed of your new site.

Nice picture of Oxford Street on 6th November 2006.

However, good as you are, can you really take pictures into the future? :-) Christmas is coming quick enough you know!

If so how about the winning post at Newbury next month, say the 3.30?

I hope you take my jest in good heart. I bet your e-mail server has virtually crashed with all the e-mails pointing out the wrong date.

    Regards,
    Peter.

  2. Aidan O'Rourke says:

Thanks and no I haven’t been inundated, yours was the first message to point out the error. I’ve changed the month to October.

As I’m the journalist, photographer, editor-in-chief, proofreader, technical support guy and tea maker all rolled into one, I often make errors, and I appreciate when people point them out.

Oh, and by the way, the winner of the 3.45 Eye On Manchester ‘National Hunt’ maiden hurdle at Newbury will be ‘Nikon Fuji’ ridden by Bertie O’Rourke.
